Zidane was the first choice for Perez, based on earlier info from Ramon Calderon. Remember Ramon Calderon was also the source who said it's 100% Mourinho a couple of days ago. However, that was after him saying Zidane already rejected Perez.

I think what was on the table for Perez was to either hire Mourinho, or go back to Zidane with a better offer. He was trying for the former, but gave up after all the negative feedback. Zidane's huge deal and the process to spend big in the summer aren't something that just got negotiated overnight. Those are probably mostly from the counter-offer made by Zidane.

If Zidane was going to come back at some point man they must be sorry it wasn't before the second Ajax game.

Zidane initially said no: there was a reason he walked, issues to be resolved. Pérez remained caught between the urge to go for José Mourinho, coincidentally stumbling across journalists on his street, and the recognition of the risks involved. Some of the board appealed for patience; in the summer, there will be other managers. But there was also that nagging feeling that they shouldn’t wait that long, living in limbo. They kept trying with Zidane. They were not always optimistic that he would agree, but he did. And for now, not just in the summer.
I think they've been trying to get Zidane back, who kept refusing. Mourinho was a candidate due to availability to start right away as opposed to desirability.

ESPN posted an article today about Ronaldo's rape case and how he's yet to even be served notice of the lawsuit after months of ducking and delays.

They were trying to keep the camera off that during the match but I saw it and laughed.

The banner wasn't there after halftime, but the fans holding it seemingly still were. I can barely imagine the beatdown stadium security would have delivered if that were tried at some US event.
