With the results of the May 3 games, Tottenham clinched their first title of the Premier League era and their first top-flight championship since the 1960-61 season. The results also ensured that Manchester United would finish outside the top four and miss the Champions League, despite spending over £225 million during the summer of 2019 bringing in new players. This can’t possibly be a good sign for manager Jose Mourinho.

    Final 2019-20 Premier League table

    Tottenham, 38 GP, +50 GD, 92 points (C)
Liverpool, 38 GP, +58 GD, 87 points (CL)
Manchester City, 38 GP, +41 GD, 83 points (CL)
Arsenal, 38 GP, +33 GD, 81 points (CL)
Manchester United, 38 GP, +31 GD, 78 points (EL)
Chelsea, 38 GP, +26 GD, 70 points (EL)
Bournemouth, 38 GP, +6 GD, 59 points (EL)
    Brighton, 38 GP, -13 GD, 53 points
    Huddersfield, 38 GP, -8 GD, 51 points
    Southampton, 38 GP, -5 GD, 49 points
West Ham, 38 GP, -8 GD, 46 points
    Everton, 38 GP, -24 GD, 44 points
    Newcastle, 38 GP, -8 GD, 42 points
    Watford, 38 GP, -17 GD, 37 points
    Leicester, 38 GP, -19 GD, 36 points
    Wolves, 38 GP, -25 GD, 35 points
Crystal Palace, 38 GP, -24 GD, 34 points
    Blackburn, 38 GP, -29 GD, 33 points (R)
    Bristol City, 38 GP, -31 GD, 27 points (R)
    Middlesbrough, 38 GP, -34 GD, 23 points (R)

With Crystal Palace’s victory in the final game, they ensured that Blackburn would join Bristol City and Middlesbrough in the drop zone. For the first time in the Premier League era, the three relegated clubs were the exact same three clubs promoted the previous year. Burnley and Cardiff were getting promoted right back into the Premier League, to be joined by one of Swansea, Sheffield United, Fulham and Brentford.

Despite winning the Manchester Derby on the final day of the season and then winning the FA Cup the following weekend, Manchester United sacked Mourinho. He spent too much to finish fifth and keep his job.

We knew long ago that Spurs were going to win the league. I mean, theoretically it was possible that they didn't but come on. The Champions League Final is the thing for Liverpool this season. Can't wait.
