    2019 Season Thread

The amateur draft is now active on StatsLab. AI teams had the first three picks, and the Gladiators are currently up.

Don't forget that you have the option of renaming your #1 selection, if you wish. You may also change a player's city of birth, nationality, and facegen race.

As far as the season goes, the Gladiators, losers of 92 games last season, lead the Pacific in the early going. Houston and Philadelphia unsurprisingly top the Atlantic.

Houston's Adam Buksa has stolen an absurd 31 bases through his team's first 38 games while only being caught 4 times. He's on pace to go 131/17. Unfortunately, that's about all he can do, as he's triple slashing .277/.309/.348 and is average in the field. He led the league with 81 steals last season.

The Gladiators being atop the Pacific might be a mirage, as I feel the team is playing over their ability. The offense is fine, as it usually is, ranking in the top three in hitting, on base, and slugging. Atticus Dodge leads the way with .347/.426/.578, which includes 13 doubles and 7 homers.

The pitching has a bit surprising, though. The team ERA is third in the Pacific, and more shockingly, the starters ERA of 3.80 ranks first. Fifth starter Jim Flowers, almost an afterthought when the season began, is 5-0 with a 2.32 ERA. Brian Lamb, who has bounced between the rotation and bullpen, is 4-1 with a 2.79 ERA and 2.7 WAR. Former first round pick Chance Riddle is 5-3 with only a 4.21 ERA, and he was expected to be the ace.

Such ingratitude, after all the times I saved your life.

So far this season, Dallas has been perfectly average.

.500 after the first sim, .500 after the second sim, and now sitting at 18-20 with a 19-19 pythagorean record. 5-11 in 1-run games, but fortunately still just 4.5 back of LA. My core lineup stalwarts of Paul Goodwin, Adam Ward, Alberto Morales, and Tony Rodriguez are raking, but the pitching staff has badly struggled.

Our 4.81 ERA is last in the league, and only one starter and one RP have an ERA under 4. Our closer Lalla Nini is currently sporting a 7.81 ERA and has been properly labeled as being "in a slump." Hopefully I can shuffle some thing around to get competent pitching, and maybe there'll be a chance for Dallas.

Welcome to the team Josh Mott! In his first two weeks with the Valiant he hit 7 Home Runs with 23 RBI. His line was .388/.492/.878 good for an OPS of 1.369 which is an OPS+ of 258. That amounts to 1.5 WAR in 13 games.

The draft is complete. You can send an export with a draft list for tomorrow's sim, if you choose.

Houston is starting to run away with the Atlantic Division, holding a 9 game lead over Philadelphia. Meanwhile in the Pacific, fifth place Dallas is only 7.5 back of first place Seoul.

Will we be seeing the Toronto Defiant and the Atlanta Reign joining soon?

We've already got three teams being run by the AI.

    Well, Third time's the charm?

The West Race was super close, 5 of the 6 teams were over .500 and within shooting distance of the playoffs. The Valiant's savior was Josh Mott who, in 87 games since arriving in LA, hit .402/.462/.604.

The match-up with Houston is strength vs strength. Houston had the best pitching and defense in the East. Unfortunately their ace pitcher, Victor Orozco tore his meniscus and is out for the season. The Valiant's strength is the offense. Josh Mott has been great as I've mentioned. You have all-stars Tommy Drowns at second, Ramon Montoya in Left, and Matt Seals in Right. Unfortunately star lead-off man Ed Santos is injured and will probably miss the series, but there is a chance he could be back for a game 7. On the other side, Houston's offense is pretty average. The Valiant's starting pitching should be strong especially if I can eliminate the back end of the rotation. The bullpen is another matter.

Based on season records, Houston looks to be the favorite but I think (Hope?) it will be a close series.

With Houston MIA and three other teams currently being AI-run, I'm gonna take some time this week to try and recruit some randos at the big boards. Does anybody have a brother that plays this game??
