Well yeah, I wouldn't vote for any Republican, much less Trump. And yeah, I would probably hold my nose and vote for Biden or Harris or Klobuchar over Trump. I'd just hate myself for doing it.

Huh. I've never heard of that guy. He's got a Mises Institute profile, so he can't be that bad, but I stopped following the Mises Institute years ago when leadership changed and the tone of the blog experienced a slight shift from predominantly scholarly to being sort of clickbaity. You gotta do what you gotta do to keep up in this crazy, social media driven world, but I don't got time for that.

So my MSN home page here at work has a link to a Politico article headlined "Republicans gush over Klobuchar", which probably tells us all we need to know, huh.

I'm going to use Joe Biden as my example, because he's the worst Democrat who I think has at least a 1% chance of being the nominee. Would I personally vote third party instead of Joe Biden? I'd sure consider it. Then again, I have the perverse luxury of having a vote for president that doesn't count in our system. If my vote for president did count, would I still vote third party over Biden? I don't know. I think it would be better to vote third party, and I think it's the right thing to do, but I would have one hell of a time casting a vote that could make it more likely Trump remains in the White House.

So I suppose I should defend the notion that it's better to vote third party. Like it or not, we've embarked on a test of accelerationist theory in the United States. I don't think the outcome would have been good at all if Trump had been clever enough to govern according to his early rhetoric, which paired angry racism with praise for things like single-payer. I think there'd be a lot of support for western European socialism + racism in this country. However, because Trump is an idiot who never wanted the job in the first place, he's just been a cruder version of what Marco Rubio or Jeb! would have been. The truth is, everyone hates GOP policies and the more nakedly they see them, the more they hate them. Wait til the (coming soon!) downturn in the economy happens - people are going to be ready to physically drag Trump and his band of grifters from the Oval Office. Because the GOP is dying off and Trump isn't clever enough to pivot, accelerationism could actually get us to real socialism or at least socialist-adjacent policies. The main thing that could prevent this is one more weak-tea Democrat, who sets the stage for the competent, scary Trumpist character. Joe Biden would be the perfect embodiment of such a Democrat.

That's why I think Joe Biden would be just about the worst thing that could happen to the country, possibly even worse than keeping Trump in office. That said, even though I think it's the right thing to do to vote third party, I don't know that I'd have the strength of character to do so if my vote counted. Look at all the daily abuses that people continue to suffer because of Republican governance, many of which Biden would stop. It's hard to look at a generation of stolen children and not be willing to do whatever is necessary to stop that from happening.
Thanks for taking the time to compose a serious, long answer to my question. I really did ask out of curiosity, and not to put you on the spot; sometimes a "firm no" doesn't really mean that when it comes down to the actual vote. As you mentioned, if you lived in a different state, you might believe you would not be able to vote third party (in which case you likely wouldn't have used the phrase "firm no"). In the interest of full disclosure, I was a "firm no" on Hillary Clinton for well over a decade, so I cast a write-in vote in 2016.

So Tulsi Gabbard had an event in Des Moines today. All of 13 people showed up.

Man, you really do hate her! She's a near unknown politician from a state state that might as well be a make-believe place to half of Iowa, had to cancel her scheduled event in Des Moines due to being stuck in Chicago, and then actually attracted hundreds to her normally scheduled afternoon event. But the story reported here is the 13 people who came to the hastily assembled impromptu event.

I like the idea that every politician, no matter how obscure, has a Hollis out there opposing them. "Ha! Pete Buttigieg calls himself a gay? Well, you'd think he'd be a little better at making sure his clothes matched."

It's really the only thing that I have to look forward to in the political threads. I can't stand these people to any degree, so any sniping and griping from you guys about these loathsome candidates is enjoyable.

    Yikes

Speaking out could lead to retribution from Klobuchar, should she be able to identify them. She has been known to grow irate at staffers who find work elsewhere, calling their new employers to have the offers rescinded. The practice, which three former staffers for Klobuchar described and one other Capitol Hill veteran confirmed, was seen as vindictive, mystifying and counterproductive. It was also a sign of how far Klobuchar would go to punish those who she thought betrayed her.
