    1977-1978 Game 19 Results

16:24 left in the 1st half and each one of my starters has 1 foul. We lead 5-4. Wine has a three pointer and Baker has a basket. On the bright side, Truman State's best player; Williams, is out for the moment with 2 fouls.

By the time of the first media time out with 14:04 left, we're down 7-9. Baker's the first to pick up his 2nd foul, so Downey will be in for a long stretch at the 4.

We go on a 9-0 run and with 11:32 left we lead 16-9. Wine is up to 8 points and I really need him to stay in the game and out of foul trouble so we can score some points while Williams is still on the bench.

Downey picks up his 2nd foul with 6:14 left and we lead 22-21. Baker will play with 2 fouls for a bit. Wine is resting for a minute or two. They have put Williams back in with 2 fouls, but he just has two quick turnovers and zero points.

David Lockman starts lighting us up and continuing his great percentages and he now has 16 points and three three pointers (I think). Wine gets called for a charge with 49 seconds left, his 2nd, and we trail 27-29.

They make one more basket and at half time the score is Truman State 31 - Centenary 27. Williams did have 3 fouls for Truman State, but his zero points is offset by Lockman's 16. Baker and Wine both have 2 fouls for us.

We're really struggling offensively, but luckily Truman State can't get any separation. The first media time out is at 14:03 and we trail 32-35. Wine is up to 11, but he and Baker both pick up their 3rd fouls. Baker's on the bench, Wine will play for a bit longer. We've had a lot of travels and charges called against us and have 9 turnovers to their 2 steals.

Wine picks up number 4 with 11:40 left and we're down 38-42. Williams finally scored for the first time and has 4 points, both buckets on steals and turnovers (after I say they aren't getting steals).

With no Wine, we just can't score (), so I bring him after the media time out with 6:18 left and we're trailing 42-51. They had a very tired team out there and we just could not take advantage.

Wine fouls out on the first play he's in.

Back to back to back threes for Truman State and I call a time out with 4:20 (hehehe) left and we're down 42-61.

We play okay down the stretch as Truman State screwed around for 4 minutes and two late threes by Levesque, his only two of the game, make the score look a bit more presentable. Truman State 62 - Centenary 52.

1-6 in conference and a game at Central Oklahoma looming. This is a very bad offensive squad and when Wine can't play 38 minutes, our perimeter scoring is very week.

Couldn't have hoped for a worse game out of Williams. Lockman was 3-4 from three and is now up to 61% on the year from there.

It's times like this where I just think about the eventuality of my being on top of the NCAA mountain, fat as a tick after feeding on my vanquished foes.

Your dynasty got me itching to play FBCB for the first time in ages. Started a game as 2 prestige Birmingham Southern and won a nail biter in the season opener, 65-64, over 61 prestige Toledo of the Mid-American conference. Our team overcame 1-16 shooting from behind the arc and losing the turnover battle by a 20-13 margin with stifling defense (26.9% FG, 4/24 on treys). I won't befoul this fine thread with anymore distractions, but thanks for the motivation to engage once again with this gem.

They are the class of the conference and would be a legit team in all but the power 5 conferences.

PG: Brashear, 6'4", Junior: Averaged 5 minutes a game last year and is up to 30 this season. Was banged up and missed the last few games, but is back in the starting lineup for this one. Big guard that does almost everything decent. Not a true point guard. 5 and a half boards a game.

SG: Gallaway, 6'5", Senior: 3 year starter. Averaged 17 and 5.5 last season. Up to 18.2 this year. Very good offensive wing and gets on the glass. Poor defender.

SF: Jackson, 6'7", Senior: 4 year starter. Big time shooter, who probably doesn't shoot enough. Another wing that will rebound. Good all around defender.

PF: Gibbs, 6'8", Senior: Started last year. Averaging 11 and 7 this season. Good defender who can score around the basket and is a problem on the offensive glass.

C: Tilghman, 7'1", Senior: 3 year starter. Fantastic, huge defender. His offensive game is limited, but he does have a nice shooting touch, even though his numbers haven't been pretty this year.

Bench: Bridges is their main post off the bench, he's 6'7" and a tough defender inside. Jones is a similar player to Baker who comes off the bench and is kind of a 4/3 guy. One freshman in their rotation, Eisenberg a 6'1" point guard got 4 starts when Brashear was out. He's back to the bench now. He's more of a combo guard than anything.

Coach: McKinley Held, 60 years old. 248-196 career record. 1st year at Central Oklahoma.

Their last coach, Andreas Davis took off to Air Force. Held is a pretty strong replacement. He's a solid bench coach, especially defensively and is competent enough in other areas. He has power 5 experience, he was the head coach at Iowa State for 10 seasons where he made the tournament twice including a Sweet Sixteen appearance his 1st year. A lot will ride on what kind of talent he brings in to replace all the seniors this squad loses this year.

We are sure to get smoked.

    1977-1978 Game 20 Results

Not a promising start. UCO starts off on fire and by the time of the first media time out at 15:37 we trail 7-15. Weeden has all 7 of our points.

At the next media time out nothing has changed. UCO is still hitting shots and Weeden still has all of our points. With 11:07 left, we trail 10-27.

A lot of time passes and things are ugly. 3:14 left and we trail 23-43. Weeden has 13 points and 4 rebounds, but we've got 10 turnovers and they are hitting 54% of their threes.

The half time score is Central Oklahoma 52 - Centenary 24. Major turnover problems the last 10 minutes and we have 13 at half. Weeden is the only player doing much and he has 4 of the turnovers. The second half should be recapped pretty quickly.

Case in point, with 8:18 left in the game we trail 37-75. Wine's gotten going a bit with a couple of three pointers, but the story is UCO raining threes down on us. Gallaway has 27.

The backups all come in with 3:21 left and we trail 42-80.

Our backups actually outscore theirs and the final score is Central Oklahoma 88 - Centenary 52. We were outclassed in every way. UCO finished 14 of 26 from three and Gallaway was 7 of 12. We cleaned up the turnover problems some in the 2nd half, but it was no use. Weeden was good, especially in the 1st half and ended up with 16 points and 6 boards. Wine hit three from beyond the arc and had 12 points and 8 boards. 1-8 in conference.

Your squad gave UCO hell last season. This year's edition is so bleeping rubbish. Still, I'm happy you've resisted the temptation to just blow through the rest of the schedule.

Edit: I don't recall a single bit of recruiting news this season. No scholarships available after the previous year's monster class? I hate, hate, hate going a year without recruiting.

It is tempting! And, yes, no scholarships this year, the only senior is Corpuz and he's a walk on, the whole garbage can is coming back.

Bing's having a solid season, but his shooting percentages aren't much. Gravely and Dent are a pair of deadly three point shooters, so I'll start off in 3-2. They've got a lot of offensive talent, it's their defense that has cost them some this year. This is the start of a 3 game home stretch. They seem too talented for us, even at home. But, we played them close last time, so we'll see.

    1977-1978 Game 21 Results

At the last moment I switch Downey for Baker in the lineup after losing 9 of the last 10 or whatever it is, got to change something, Don't I?

Tong goes down with an injury with 17:07 on the clock and won't return. It would really be a drag if he's out for a long time. We are up 5-2 however! Weeden hit a 3, and hopefully he can maintain the hot (sort of) streak he's been on.

Media time out at 11:47 and we've fallen into a familiar cold spell. We trail 9-17.

6:00 on the nose and we trail 12-25. Shooting horribly while they are destroying us. Bing has 9 points and 4 rebounds, though he does have two fouls and they are 3 of 5 from three so far.

This is not a good team. I'm beginning to realize it most of the way through our 5-15 season. The score is Southeastern Louisiana 39 - Centenary 22. Weeden has 8 and Wine 7. Baker will start the 2nd half for the injured Tong.

The second media time out is at 11:53 and we trail 31-54. They are 6-9 from three and just killing me in every aspect.

I call a time out after a long stretch with no stoppage to get some tired guys off the court. There's 6:28 left and we trail 36-63. If Tong is out for a while, Corpuz is going to get a lot of minutes and that is a problem because Corpuz sucks at everything except being tall and pretty good on defense.

All the scrubs come in with 2:16 left and we're down 41-67.

Even Gunderson and Varnado play, neither do anything, Varnado even misses two free throws. Still has yet to score a collegiate basket.

Final score: Southeastern Louisiana 68 - Centenary 42.

The scoring issues keep right on coming, Bing tore us up inside. Downey is not a good matchup for any good offensive post, but he'll start again next game with the Tong injury, but it is good news in that it will be the only game Tong will miss, and he should be ready for the game after that since we have no Thursday night game next week.
