Carter actually got hurt in our game, and he's a big time loss. He's probably the best center in the conference. They do have talent available though. Howard is having a very nice freshman year with 12 a game, and Shay is probably the best shooter in the conference. Mazzola is a really nice player that I wish I had, he's averaging 4 and 4 off the bench as a 3-and-D wing.

We played these guys really close earlier this season, but we've been playing horribly lately and haven't been competitive in most of our last 8 or so games, so I'm not optimistic. Nicholls has lost 3 of 4, so maybe they suck too.

Tong can play and might see a few minutes, but he will not start. Baker and Downey will be the posts.

    Thank goodness for McNeese State.

    1977-1978 Game 22 Results

We've fouled them 5 times in 45 seconds. Avery has two already and the game is scoreless.

I also forgot to take Tong out of the lineup. He played 3 minutes. Baker is in now. We're down 0-2.

We're up 7-2 at one point, but a 7-0 run for Nicholls State finds us down 7-9 with 11:21 left. Baker has 4 points and Levesque has a three pointer.

Media time out with 6:31 left and we trail 9-20. Even though Nicholls has 7 turnovers, we aren't hitting any shots and it is looking like another spanking on deck.

We cut it to 9 at one point, before falling apart the last 3 minutes. Score at half time: Nicholls State 35 - Centenary 18. Avery and Weeden both have 3 fouls. Wine shot once in the 1st half.

With 11:46 left, we trail 33-55. Downey has 10 points. They are killing us on the offensive glass, though. Downey has some major flaws despite his ability to score the ball.

Last media time out is with 2:30 left and we're down 48-67. Baker is in double figures with 11, but it's been a massacre for a while now.

No scrubs come in except for Varnado accidentally. Final score: Nicholls State 67 - Centenary 48.

We got killed inside on the glass without Tong playing his normal minutes. Weeden was 3-15 from the field, while Wine played 36 minutes and shot it 4 times. Baker had his best offensive game of the season.

No Kaminski for the Bears, he'll be out another 3 or so weeks. He's a big loss as he's a good all around player and a very good big man for this league. Talent wise Shropshire and Caldera are a solid duo for the Southland, and there really hasn't been much of a drop off in performance without him in the small sample size.

Previews the rest of the season will be pretty bare-bones given our record. A decent chance for a win to break the losing streak. I'm also starting Levesque over Wine this game, to try to shake things up a bit. You know, stir the pot.

    1977-1978 Game 23 Results

Levesque quickly picks up 2 fouls after entering the starting lineup. Weeden hits a 3 and we're all tied up at 3 just 30 seconds into the game. Wine will quickly come in.

The first media time out is with 14:20 left and we lead 13-11. Wine hits a 3 off the bench and has 4 total. Shropshire for UCA has all 11 of their points. With Levesque's foul trouble, Ike Walker will get some run off the bench.

Baker also comes off the bench and scores 5 quick points as part of a 7-0 run which forces UCA to call a time out and we lead 20-11 with 13:07 left.

Media time out with 7:41 left and both teams have hit a dry spell and we lead 24-15. Levesque is back on the court with 2 fouls and rewards my bravery with a 3 pointer.

The last media time out of the half is with 2:54 left and we're up 29-25 as UCA has made a little bit of a run. The scoring has been spread around pretty evenly, Wine leads us with 7.

At half time, we actually hold a lead and the score is Centenary 32 - Central Arkansas 27. Baker and Downey both have 6 points while Wine still leads us with 7. Levesque will start the 2nd half.

A very ugly start to the 2nd half, at the first media time out with 14:38 left we trail 36-39. UCA starts out on fire and we are struggling to put the ball in the basket. Wine is in and will probably be playing the rest of the half.

We go on a nice run and lead 48-43 with 10:59 left. Baker and Downey both are playing well and scoring points. Baker is up to 11, Downey and Weeden both have 10. Weeden has 3 fouls.

Wine hits 3 straight three pointers and suddenly has 16 points and UCA has to call a time out and it finds us up 57-47 with 8:56 left.

Things are going well and with the last media time out with 3:33 left and we're up 66-52. Wine nails another 3 and is up to 19. Downey does have 4 fouls, but hopefully it won't matter.

And it doesn't as we hold on and finally pick up our 2nd conference win with the final score being Centenary 69 - Central Arkansas 58.

Wine had a very nice hot stretch in the 2nd half that put us over the edge, while Downey and Baker were a tough combo inside. Outside of Shropshire for UCA, they really struggled to score the ball.
