I know that Beany Stover is going to look like a mentally challenged pick...but...I trust my scout. He has Stover as a potential 30-80-55 bat and 4.5 stars. I'll obviously coach him up as a 1B. If, and it's obviously a big IF, he fills out then he'll be a very useful power hitter.

I was actually tempted to take him in the first round. He does make the throw-in second round pick in the Cotta trade look better potentially.

The OSA scout thinks Stover is absolute trash. The Stars scouting director concurs with NY's fella that Beany has rare power for this era rating him a 65 for clearing the fences, but also is of the opinion he's a dead ringer for Chicago's Max "Awful" Schaufle. This is the most extreme risk/reward pick of the draft, as at age 17 Stover has many years to buff his game and become something special, whereas Schaufle came into the league already maxed out.

I'm interested to see what Stover does, too, although my scout sees him as 25/80/50 no-glove one-star garbage.

It seems Stover has missed out on the chance to hit 100 home runs in a season as the spring training totals in the 3 minor leagues hosting preseason activities gives me hope that the wacko home run settings have been corrected. One of LA's farmhands crushed 91 home runs last year and his power potential was laughable compared to that of Beany.

FWIW, the NY scout had Schaufle as a 1-star Current and Potential when he was drafted. It's the same scout who is giving Stover 4.5 stars Potential.

In any case, I didn't see anyone else who jumped out at me as a solid pick at this stage of the draft and he seemed to be worth a decent roll of the dice.

Baltimore's autopick triggers a string of 6 list picks, but those damn Highlanders nab the last guy on Detroit's list, again. :shakesfist:

    Back to the drawing board.

I must be doing *something* right if I'm snatching guys that darkhorse wants. Or else we're both making mistakes. :-)

    San Francisco on the clock.

Another Buffalo autopick, but the OSA chose well as Braxton was on the Detroit draft list and the southpaw reliever is near major league ready.
