Wasn't there former English national manager that recently praised Allardyce's management and rated him highly? 11 out of 10 or something?

Probably. Big Sam is on really good terms with most of the "proper football men" in England.

I mean, if they took the threat of relegation seriously - and I think it's an open question whether they should have - Allardyce seems to have been a decent hire. But he does seem like a terrible choice to manage a team with ambitions. On the one hand, Everton were safe from about two weeks after Sam was hired. On the other, Burnley just qualified for the Europa League.

(Probable Everton target) Hirving Lozano is looking awfully good against Germany. And on the left wing, where Everton has a huge need. It's too bad they couldn't sign him before the World Cup started, because his price is going to skyrocket.

I think this might be Everton's best deadline day since Martinez's first season when Lukaku signed. I was feeling pessimistic about this season yesterday, but I'm definitely more upbeat now.

The team is now pretty deep and versatile, and well positioned to maintain its natural position of just below the top teams.

A lot of defenders on the roster, especially if Zouma also joins.

Although I'm always okay with bad things happening to Everton, that straight red for Jagielka feels pretty harsh. I don't think he was deliberately endangering the opponent and it sure as hell wasn't a clear goal-scoring opportunity. That should have been a yellow.

Meh. I would have been happy with a draw before the match started. I'm happy now. The absolute worst thing a schedule can throw up at you is playing a promoted side in their stadium on the first day of the season, and Wolves are better than most promoted sides. I think Walcott should be really nervous about losing his spot to Bernard or Ademola Lookman after that performance, but apart from that I can't complain about any of the Everton players. Even Morgan Schneiderlin looked like he wanted to be there.
