Liverpool now has a grand total of 3 healthy midfielders in the squad. Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum are now set to play 90 minutes of every remaining game unless Can or Lallana can somehow get fit. If one of them gets hurt ... you tell me what happens.

I've been saying all along that I think Trent Alexander-Arnold is a midfielder, but I can't imagine Klopp would want to mess with what is working. That means Ben Woodburn and assorted academy players, or fitting square pegs into round holes. Lovren. Mané. It's a fascinating situation for a team that's 3rd in the Premier League and has a 3-goal lead in the semis of the CL.

The absurdity of a Liverpool fan's fears that a 3-goal lead is not enough is readily illustrated by almost any other game, but let's just take Bayern 1-2 Real Madrid as a handy example. Bayern lost at home, and yet has only to win 2-0 in the second leg to progress. Meanwhile Roma has to win 3-0 against the highest scoring team in the CL. It's not whether it can happen or not, it obviously can happen. It's just tremendously unlikely to happen, or at least, far less likely to happen than in the mind of almost any Liverpool fan in the world. 538 pegs Roma's odds of winning at 6%. I will definitely take those odds.

They're playing Stoke in the league this weekend so they could easily afford to rotate half the side. As you say, they could play Trent in midfield and could probably even get away with a 3-4-3 with van Dijk as sort of a half back defensive mid. That said, Stoke is a terrible team and this Reds team should still easily best them at Anfield.

Roma have already turned over a three goal deficit against a team with just as much firepower as Liverpool. I don't think it's absurd at all to be worried.

But it was still a miracle, no? It's not unreasonable at all to think that they won't be able to come up with two miracles within two weeks.

Miracle? Don't worry? I'm not sure what those terms mean.

I'd put Roma's chances at about 1 in 8, so I'll be worrying even though I like those odds more than I liked Liverpool's chances before yesterday's game. Nate Silver has Roma winning about 1 in 17, which seems really low to me but I'd still be worrying at 1 in 17.

Right, obviously you can't be unhappy in the slightest with this week's result. A three goal lead is fantastic, and I think Klopp is smart enough to look at the Barcelona match and take some lessons from it. This year's Champions League has had lots of crazy stuff happen, though. I think a 1 in 17 chance sounds about right.

Yeah, Barcelona may have been undone by their overconfidence. I don't think it's in Liverpool DNA to be overconfident, so that should be a huge help in getting them to the finish line.

Winning against Stoke is huge this weekend. It means that thanks to goal difference we only need one point from the remaining three games to guarantee a top-4 finish. With the top 4 assured, we can channel our attention where it needs to be, rotate scrubs in while keeping the starters sharp in (hopefully) preparation for the CL final. We take care of business this weekend, I think the team will be cool and calm on Wednesday. Give Lovren a mild tranquilizer and we'll be good to go.
