    Deadball: 2017 Albany Elites

    April 2, 2017 - Knoxville @ Albany

Easton tosses gem, spoiling Elites' debut

The 24-time league champions are coming off a disappointing sixth-place season that saw them finish 66-87 a year ago, but took a first step to restoring their former glory by defeating the Albany Elites 5-0 on opening day at Kralc.net Ballpark in Albany. Righty Kid Easton (1-0) took the mound for Knoxville and was nearly unhittable, allowing only two base hits while striking out five and walking none in seven innings of work. Albany starter Jake Scott (0-1) was almost as good, surrending only one run over seven innings before running into trouble in a four-run eighth that broke the game open for the visiting Grackles, highlighted by Andre Lambert's two-run pinch hit home run off Elites reliever Andrew Canal.

Hey, I got on base like I said, and I even gave the other team's 3rd base coach some work by dropping that fly ball. What do you expect Johnny Chicago to do, carry the team all by himself from the 8 hole?

Hey Schmitty, nice hit! Don't be thinking you're gonna be the hit master though. Johnny Chicago is Pete Rose, only without the gambling and the looking like he is a 45 year old lesbian woman.

So is the ball only supposed to be dead for one team?

Some possible fill-in names for the subs - Jay Back? Rich "Socks" Wynn? Luis Espada? Brent Punch? Erik Carros? David Porthos-d'Artagnan?
And it's one more beer and I don't hear you anymore

Yeah, I got the Albany pinch hitter and relievers from a table of random players in the Deadball rules. Will start rolling up some more hobbits later on this evening.

La Disco Demolition! Albany slugger clubs 2 HR as Hübner Ks 12 in Elites first win

The Albany Elites evened their season-opening series, defeating the Knoxville Grackles 5-4 at Kralc.net Ballpark in Albany. Knoxville opened the scoring in the top of the first with doubles by Allen Milliken, Scott Kent and Mac McClintock. The Elites (1-1) answered back in the bottom half when Sixto La Disco hit a grand slam as Grackles starter Ry Matthews struggled in the early going, walking Curtis Fingers and Eck Forprez before Jumbo Fite singled to load the bases. La Disco added a solo shot in the bottom of the third and finished the day with three hits and 5 RBI. After a rough start, Elites righthander Albah Hübner settled in and finished with 12 strikeouts in eight strong innings, earning his first win of the year. Rich "Socks" Wynn retired the side in order in the ninth inning for the save.
